LETTER FROM EXALTED RULER FOR NEWSLETTER

In May my wife, Marylynne, and I attended our first Elks' State Convention held in Wilmington, N.C. with several of our brother Elks from our Lodge. We had a wonderful time meeting other Elks from around the state and did a lot of eating and walking. Our own PER, Teddy Acton, was sworn in as Vice President, East District. Congratulations, Teddy!

I have been in office a short time and so far so good. Along with the House Committee we are slowly getting the year ahead organized. We do need more of you to step up and give a few hours a month to help in the Lodge and Club. Even if all of you come to lunch once a week or a Friday night dinner once a month, it will help support our Lodge.

We compare each month of the year to the last year's same month. For example, April 2009 gross income in the Club (bar + dining room) was $26,825. This April 2010 gross was $35,811 - an increase of $8,986. Last year we didn't have a hard copy of the Newsletter sent to members. We thought it would save us a good amount of money. This year the House Committee did send out a hard copy. This change and some additional catering affairs, I believe had an impact on the increased gross income. My hope is that the gross income will continue to increase through the year. My first few weeks have brought me much support from the members who have approached me. I thank you all.

I have been making plans which I hope you will enjoy in the coming months. They include some new entertainment and some traditional acts. Also, I am holding a raffle during the year called "Exalted Ruler's Giveaway". Each member will receive a letter in the mail explaining the contest.

The House Committee will be hosting an Elks' Picnic this year on Sept 11th at Carolina Shores. I want to thank them for stepping up to this challenge. Please join us and make it a "sell out"!

I will continue to do my best to serve you and make this year a successful one. I cannot do this with just a small number of helpers. I need more people to step up to the plate and do what Elks do.

Please, if you see me at the Lodge and have an issue, feel free to engage me. I will consider any and all ideas.
